The last two nights have been rough. Sabrina who is normally a GREAT night sleeper and has been since the first week I returned to work from maternity leave, suddenly woke up crying several times 2 nights ago. I figured it was teething, and at first my rubbing oragel on her gums and putting the "paci" in her mouth was enough to get her to settle down and go back to sleep. Lat night, though, she was inconsolable. Even once I got her calm and really sleepy in the glider chair in the nursery, I laid her down in her crib, got back in bed, pulled up the covers, and then she started crying again. Hmmmm -- something about laying down was causing her some type of discomfort.
So what's a working mom to do? By then it was 10:00 and I had a precious 6 hours left to sleep before a really big day at work (I was presenting a good chunk of a status brief for our customer, with about 25-30 staffers in attendance). So I brought her to bed with us, something I have only done on weekend mornings after she wakes up at 5am and I feed her and hope she'll go back to sleep. It worked out pretty well. She was still whiney and whimpering at times but in between I was able to actually sleep (and Gene too because he just kept snoring LOL).
She did drink her bottle in the morning, but I could tell something was up. After my big presentation, I got a message from daycare saying she was refusing her bottle. Long story short, I called the doctor's office and got an appointment for this afternoon. It's her left ear -- the infection has still not cleared up. At first (2-3 weeks ago), it was in the right ear, then 2 days later it spread to the left ear also. Now it's just the left ear. So the doctor prescribed a THIRD antibiotic, this type it's something called Cefprozil. Let's hope it does the trick because poor Sabrina is in pain.
Oh, and my presentation went really well :)
The ear infection that will not end...
