Yesterday Sabrina, Gene and I went to the first in a series of 18 swimming classes for Sabrina (albeit, Gene just watched patiently from the sidelines since he's swimming-adverse). They take place at a nearby indoor swimming pool on the campus of a local university.
I use the term 'swimming' loosely, because in reality we just splashed around, along with the other 15 or so kid/parent combinations there. We sang songs ("The wheels on the bus", "Ring around the rosy", "Pop goes the weasel"), all while lifting the babies in and out of the water, letting them kick, etc. It looked like Sabrina was the youngest, and the oldest was maybe 3 years old. The literature stated that it was for children 6 months to 3 years of age.
Sabrina did really well! I anticipated that, since she loves bath-time so much and has recently discovered what happens when she slaps down on the water with her palms: mommy gets soaked and so does the hardwood floor of the kitchen! :) She particularly loves being lifted in and out of the water.
My lesson learned is I really need to learn the words to some of these songs! I was doing my best to keep up with the singing of the instructor and the other parents and even the 3 year olds, but it wasn't working. The only words I know to "Pop goes the weasel" is just that... Maybe one of those toddlers can tutor me before the next class on Wednesday...
