Happy 1st Birthday Sabrina!! You've had quite a first year, indeed. You entered our lives on July 23rd, 2008 at 1:43 pm EST, and since then you've charmed us, made us laugh (and cry), and so greatly enriched our lives and those around us.
We love you so much, Sweetheart.
We celebrated Sabrina's first birthday with a trip to a local kid-friendly restaurant (Red Robin), where Sabrina enjoyed some chicken quesadilla for the first time, along with a side of brocolli. We took her to Target so she could pick out a doll and some type of action figure (not wanting to limit the types of toys she may enjoy). By the time we got there, she was asleep. So Mommy and Daddy had to pick something for her. She ended up getting 2 dolls because all the action figures we saw just looked too violent (knives, guns in hands) or with too many little parts that would be unsafe. So she's now the proud owner of Kaysee, a bald blue-eyed cabbage patch doll, and a baby doll, who coos, says "Ma-ma", and moves a little, until you put her pacifier in her mouth. This doll has been named Zoe and her skin tone perfectly matches Sabrina's :)
Gene had picked up some vanilla cake from the same bakery that made our wedding cake almost 8 years ago. We took her home, took out the cake, inserted one candle, sang Happy Birthday to her and Gene helped Sabrina blow out the candles. Then I served her a slice in her high chair and, with the camera still rolling, offered it to her. I was ready to capture the face-into-the-cake, frosting-smearing shots traditionally associated with this big day. Instead she dipped her index and middle finger into the frosting, looked at her fingers, then put them down. "Taste it, Sweetheart! It's cake...yummy!", I coaxed. Nothing. I resorted to taking out a spoon and offering her some. Not interested in even tasting it. Oh well. more for Mommy and Daddy :)
I'll be sure to remind her of this when she's older and begging for dessert LOL.
