Just the 3 Of Us

Days from turning 2...

I can hardly believe it, but we are just days away from Sabrina's 2nd anniversary of her birth. Wow. Time really flies. Before I know it, she'll be graduating from college!

These days she continues to amaze and delight us. Here a few updates:

- Whenever she has a minor trip-and-fall, she'll immediately say "I'm OK" (before we can even ask) and get up.

- Two weeks ago my mom came down for a weekend visit. She and Sabrina have bonded and are really attached. So much so that when "Baba" went upstais to take her shower, Sabrina stood at the bottom of the stairs and with sad eyes told me "I lost it! I lost it, the Baba!"

- She loves ice. She could be across the room and as soon as she hears me reaching into the ice tray in the freezer, she'll run over and exclaim "Ice! I want some ice, Mommy!". I will give her a cube, and she will hold it in her hand, suck on it, etc. She's always liked ice, actually. I can remember her dipping her hand into a glass of ice water and keeping it in there for what seems like an incomfortably long time.

- Lemons. At restaurants she has started taking the lemons that decorate the ice water glasses and likes to eat them. Sure, she'll make that pucker face at first but then she gets used to it and nibbles away at the citrus.

- The other day one of her day care teachers told me that she had just finished changing Sabrina's diaper. She stood her up on the floor and Sabrina turned to walk away then suddenly turned around and said "Thank you Marta for changing diaper".

- Since she was about 3 months old, I've followed the same basic bedtime routine with Sabrina. But these days when I put her in her crib around 6:00 pm (sounds early, but I get her up at 4:30 am each weekday) and she will sit in there and play for an hour before going to sleep. The only thing in there with her is her "blankie". Gene and I take turns going up to her room to tell her to lie down, close your eyes, etc. She goes to sleep when she feels like going to sleep. Ugh. So we started putting her to bed later, but what I discovered is she wants her alone time no matter what! The other night she was calling "Mommmmmmmmyyyyyyy" every 30 seconds which she never does. So I go up there (by then the portable monitor's battery was worn down so I could just get audio, no visual). I walk into her room to find that she is standing in her crib, completely naked, looking at me with puppy-dog eyes. Thank goodness there was no poop in sight, just a wet diaper and her jammies. I really wanted to laugh out loud she looked so cute, but was able to hold back, simply saying "What happened, Sabrina?" to which she replied "I took it off"
