I took Sabrina back into the pediatrician's office today so they could recheck her urine to see if the infection has cleared up. Good news on 2 fronts: it has cleared up (so the antibiotics are working) and they didn't have to catheterize this time! Phiew.
Poor Sabrina was traumatized by the last incident because as soon as the nurse walked in and she noticed I was taking off her little trousers, she started crying. They used a bag with adhesive strips at the end to attach to her diaper area to catch her urine. The nurse left the room once it was attached and a few minutes later the doctor came in to chat, gave us our orders and paperwork for the renal ultrasound at UVCG (scheduled for Friday). During that conversation I had Sabrina on my lap and I felt something warm :) When the nurse came in to take the bag off, poor Sabrina was crying like crazy because it hurt her when the adhesive was being pulled off. Ouch! I tried the comfort/reassure technique but I'm afraid it wasn't helping her. I didn't redress her until the doctor came back 10 minutes later to say the sample came back fine. I laid Sabrina back down on the table and she started crying, thinking something painful was coming again, but I said "It's OK sweetheart, I'm just going to get you dressed so we can go home" and she was OK, but a little leery of this whole process...
I know I have to be strong for her once Friday's appointments roll around, but the truth is, whenever she starts crying (and it's because of pain due to something that is being done to her) I start tearing up myself. It's happened from the very first vaccination she had and ever since...
