BOOM! Waaaaaaaaahh! That's what Gene and I woke up to this morning around 7am. I seems Sabrina discovered she can climb out of her crib and also learned a bit about the effects of gravity. Ouch!
I was really hoping this day would come much later. The thought of having her in a toddler bed and able to roam around unsupervised scares me. I have visions of her climbing up the bookshelves in her room, yanking the lamp of the chest of drawers, etc. Gene keeps telling me this is a rite of passage. I'm trying to go with that. As it is, when we put her down, she will play in her crib (even though the only thing in there with her is her blankie) for about 45 minutes and we usually have to go up 1-2 times to tell her to lie down and go to sleep so that she can get in the requisite amount of sleep before we get her up at 4:30am (on weekdays anyway).
So this afternoon we'll be doing the crib-to-toddler-bed conversion. Wish us luck. Tonight should be interesting.

Added after the fact:
Turns out the store we bought the crib from did not include the toddler bed rail. AND, the crib has been discontinued. So we have the crib, and we have the rail to convert it to a full-size bed, but not the toddler bed. After many calls, I found a kids furniture store in Tennessee that had the rail we needed in stock and in the right color. We just received it today (9/17/10) so tomorrow we will install it. The new concern I have now is that the piece actually lives below the top of the mattress so there is nothing preventing her from rolling out of the bed (she's always been a mobile-type sleeper.. never wakes up in the same part of the bed as she fell asleep).
Goodbye crib
