Back in April I wrote a post about a new Montessori school being built in our area. Fast forward a few months, and while the building construction is almost completed (running 2 weeks behind schedule), Sabrina is enrolled and about to start next week at an off-site location. Monday she will be meeting her new classmates and teacher assistant(s)! They are hoping the school will be open on September 20th.
So this morning it dawned on me that today will be her last day in the daycare center where she has been going since she was just 3 months old. It's the only place she's ever known. And while I've been trying to prepare her for this change (by pointing out "your new school!" every time we drive by the construction), I'm not sure how she is going to react come Monday morning.
One teacher at the daycare center in particular, "Ms. Melanie" who works in the infant room, has warmly greeted and spent time with Sabrina from day one. While Sabrina is obviously no longer in her classroom, Ms. Melanie is on the early shift (5:30 am) and often Sabrina is the first one there. So they spend quite a bit of time together each day... at least until 7am when Sabrina's regular teachers typically arrive.
Sometimes to get Sabrina going in the morning as we're trying to leave the house, I'll say "Come one, we have to go see Ms. Melanie... she's waiting for us" and Sabrina will inevitably say "Yaye!". On occasion, Sabrina has also told me "I want to go see Melanie" and that's when I have to explain that Ms. Melanie is at home, she doesn't work on weekends :)
Thank you Melanie for the excellent care you have given to Sabrina since she was a baby. Knowing you were caring for her made it very comforting for me, especially as I was transitioning to being a working mom after my maternity leave was over.
