It was a trip that's been months in the making. In fact, when I was still pregnant we even toyed with the idea of flying to Nebraska for the 2008 game against Virginia Tech... but someone wiser than me suggested that that may not be the greatest idea, especially with a 2 month old. OK, OK, but we decided it was definitely a go for 2009 in Blacksburg.
So 2009 rolled around and in February we bought our tickets, made our hotel reservations (lucked out and found a Marriott property in Christiansburg with rooms available -- hey, may as well get some points out of this!). And then the weekend finally arrived.
Basil and his girlfriend of 2+ years came over to the house on Thursday night so that we could all get an early start on the 3-4 hour drive down to Blacksburg the next morning. And that's what we did. I t worked out really well. We got into town around 2:00 and while the younger folk decided to go hiking (no thank you), Gene and Sabrina allowe dme to take them on a reminiscing drive around my old haunts in Blacksburg. We dropped some serious coin in the VT bookstore where I could not resist buying some Hokie gear for me and Sabrina.
We all linked up for dinner in downtown Blascksburg Friday night. We found a middle eastern restaurant on Main Street that turned out to be pretty good and not too loud/smoky, unlike the other places near by. We came out just in time to observe a huge pep rally of sorts. Sabrina was facinated by all of that! We head back to the hotel to retrire for the night while Basil and Amelia stay and do some partying.
Saturday was game day! We tailgated with some friends, who even deep fried a turkey! Yummm. Here we are...
It was a llllllong walk from where we parked in downtown Blackburg to the parking lot where the tailgate was being held, but along the way we passed by the Virginia Tech botanical gardens and of course I just had to stop an snap a few photos with all the beautiful flowers and my beautfiful Sabrina.
