On Monday we celebrated seven wonderful years of marriage. It seems like only yesterday that Gene and I walked down the aisle of the old chapel.
Gene had sent me a dozen beautiful red roses, which were delivered to the house that morning. We had made reservations at a steak house about 20 miles away and had briefly contemplated getting a sitter but in the end decided that we would celebrate as a family and bring Sabrina along. Gene came home from work early and off we went.
As we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess led us to our table and I see a cake topper on the table that looks remarkably like the one we had at our wedding. Wait, it IS the one we had at our wedding! (it was custom-made to our likeness by a company I had come across on-line and drew a lot of attention at our reception)
Turns out Gene had a few tricks up his sleeve! He had dropped it off on his way home. In between Sabrina's fussiness, we enjoyed a really exquisite meal. Once the server came by to clear our plates, Gene said something to him about the dessert special. Dessert special? Sounds intriguing... Turns out the dessert special was a 6 inch version of the cake we had at our reception! Almond cake with chocolate mousse filling and white buttercream. He had ordered it from the very same bakery, picked it up that afternoon and dropped it off ahead of time at the restaurant.
The whole experience was so romantic and filled with surprises. I am just so lucky to have such a wonderful husband. Thank you Darling!
