37 weeks = "Full Term"!!!

We made it to the magical week 37! Medically, Sabrina is considered full-term, meaning at this point they would not try to stop labor and would let her be born. One of the last organs to mature in babies is the lungs and at this point they are mature enough to generally not require any supplemental interventions to breathe outside the womb. :)

My weekly doctor's visits are all about signs of labor -- how often are my contractions, are they regular, etc. So far I've had a few strong ones, but not consistently. My next check-up is tomorrow and I'm hoping to learn if I'm dilated at all. In the grand scheme of things, being 1-2 cm dilated doesn't tell me anything about how soon I'll go into labor, but it sure would be nice to know I'm making progress on the road to 10 cm's! My good friend walked around for 3 weeks at 3 cms and still had to be induced, so you never know...

Tomorrow evening we're taking 3.5 hour "Newborn Care" class to learn all about bathing, feeding, sleep cycles, diapering, etc. I'm really looking forward to having some type of knowledge in my back pocket about these things. While the birthing class was great and informative, I know I'll have nurses and doctors to guide me through that when the time comes. Once Sabrina is home, though, it's on us to know what we're doing :)
